Microbial production of fatty-acid-derived fuels and chemicals from plant biomass
Indeed, you read the title correctly. Researchers at LS9 (biofuels research) have bio-engineered “souped up” e. coli bacteria that produce biodiesel as a byproduct of sugar consumption. I first heard about this in a documentary I recently saw and found the actual results published in Nature.
